Although
our practice has a large cosmetic surgery focus, our training and
skills as well as the fact that we can discuss and participate in these
large reconstructive procedures as a team enables us to perform the
long 10 or 20 hour procedures in the reconstructive aspect of our field. Guide to Dating services in St Ives http://adultfrriendfinder.net/?p=3405!
Occasionally
we come across some unusual problems in patients from around the world. Here are some examples of last year's highlights.
We
met Stephanie, a 7 year old girl from Cyprus when she was 6 months
old, during a surgical trip to the island. She was born with both ears
missing. Through the help of Centennial Medical Center, the government
of Cyprus and numerous volunteers, Stephanie was able to visit Nashville
twice last year. A framework made out of her ribs was sculpted and placed
under the skin during the first stage. During her second visit, ear
lobes and the lower part of the ear was reconstructed. She was pleasantly
surprised when she woke up from surgery with a set of earrings. The
picture shows Stephanie in the recovery room admiring her new earrings.

Susan
was born in California, and until age 14 she was a blond hair, blue eyed California girl. By the time she turned 20, a benign tumor took over half her face and her nose. For the next twenty years Susan's life has been a total nightmare. After a series of 3 major surgeries, Susans face was rebuilt. High end computer technology was used for part of the reconstruction. The Discovery channel will feature Susan in a show entitled "Super Surgery" which will air in February. Discovery channel flew Susan to Nashville for her final "touch up" surgery.
A
large number of immigrants from Mexico is based in Nashville. Through
a local foundation, we have been involved in taking care of a number
of children born with a cleft lip and palate. Two of these children
had reconstructive surgeries last year by our team.
A
young woman from Guatemala is our latest patient. She suffered major
facial injuries when she fell from a bridge at age 4 in her home country.
Our first procedure on her was done this year. She will undergo two
more surgeries to restore her right side of her face. [before and after

All
of the surgeries above were done free of charge. A number of children
and adults are scheduled to visit Nashville for their surgeries
Training surgeons around the world.
Performing surgeries in developing countries around the world will take care of quite a few patients over the years. Typically close to 100 surgeries are performed over a two week peried. More important though is to enable the local surgeons to perform these surgeries without our help. We developed multiple training material including the following volume of helping teach surgeons how to perform cleft lip and palate surgery. Have a look: More>>>
